About being a titleholder

This page is dedicating to highlighting what being a local titleholder is like, the expectations of our titleholders, and more! Basically if you’re sitting on this page thinking to yourself that you are ready to be the next Miss Wausau Area, this will be good information to have! (or, if you’re thinking to yourself …what if I girlboss too close to the sun and win this?)

What does it mean to be a titleholder?

If you’ve become Miss Wausau Area, or Miss Wausau Area’s Teen, first of all, congratulations! This is an incredible legacy to be a part of, and we know you will continue to build that legacy. Being a local titleholder is a unique opportunity that you have full control to decide what you want to make this experience be.

Miss Wausau Area & Teen serve as an ambassador, leader, and role model in the central Wisconsin community. Through volunteerism, advocacy, and public appearances, our titleholders promote meaningful social impact initiatives while developing professional skills in communication, leadership, and civic engagement. Also, it’s just flat out fun to be involved in the community and see how awesome it is!

What do I have to do as a Wausau Area Titleholder?

Local titleholders compete at the state Miss Wisconsin Scholarship Competition! Miss Wisconsin/Miss Wisconsin’s Teen typically takes place the third week of June in New Berlin, WI. Miss titleholders will spend the whole week at Miss Wisconsin, while Teen titleholders usually only have to be there from Wed-Sat of state week.

Throughout the rest of the year, our titleholders typically volunteer at various events within the community, grow their social impact initiatives, and prepare for the state competition! You’ll work closely with two volunteers from the organization - Jenny and Grace. Jenny will help with organizing appearances, signing you up for parades, and media interviews. Grace will be your primary point of contact for state preparation.

A good rule of thumb is if you are using something sponsored - promoting it on social media is always appreciated by the business.

We require that sponsored wardrobe is returned to the Miss Wausau Area wardrobe closet at the end of your year for future contestants to use. You would be able to access it any time you would want for any future local competitions if you were to continue competing in other local competitions. This helps us grow our Miss Wausau Area closet and ensures that future contestants competing in our competition can access this competition without wardrobe being a concern!
