About The Miss Wausau Area Scholarship Organization

About The Miss Wausau Area Scholarship Organization

The story of Miss Wausau began in 1953, when the first titleholder stepped forward as a symbol of confidence, community spirit, and possibility. For twenty years, the program inspired young women across central Wisconsin, planting seeds of leadership that would last for generations. After a 50-year pause, the Miss Wausau Area Scholarship Organization was revived in 2023 with a renewed purpose: to uplift, empower, and celebrate the incredible potential within our community’s young women. Since then, more than $13,000 in scholarships has been awarded to 20 remarkable delegates who are already making a difference in central Wisconsin and beyond.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and proud local preliminary to the Miss America program, we offer far more than a stage. Our delegates participate in each phase of competition— interview, talent, evening gown, fitness, and on-stage question. Each young woman also champions a Community Service Initiative (CSI), a cause she leads with passion to spark meaningful change within central Wisconsin and beyond. Our Miss Wausau Area and Miss Wausau Area’s Teen titleholders carry this spirit forward as they represent our region at the Miss Wisconsin competitions with grace, purpose, and pride.

Miss Wausau Area is not just a competition—it is a movement of mentorship, service, and self-discovery. We are a community where young women gain confidence, build leadership skills, and earn scholarships that help shape their futures. Guided entirely by dedicated volunteers, supported by generous sponsors, and strengthened by an inspiring alumni network, we continue to grow a legacy of women who lead with heart in their families, careers, and communities. Together, we are building a brighter future for central Wisconsin—one titleholder at a time.
