The Little Lilacs Program

A world of empowered, confident, and community-driven women creating positive impacts in the world around them. Every strong woman starts somewhere, and that can be a part of the Little Lilacs program.

The Little Lilacs Program is not a competition. It is held in conjunction with the Miss Wausau Area Scholarship Competition to provide the Little Lilacs with the opportunity to meet mentors through the Miss Wausau Area & Miss Wausau Area’s Teen titleholders and candidates.

Here’s the logistics about the program:

  • Little Lilacs are any girls ages 5-13 interested in participating

  • November 7th, 2026, beginning in late morning. Further details provided after signup.

  • A parent must attend with the Little Lilac.

  • The cost to register each Little Lilac is $45. Lunch and a T-shirt is provided for each Lilac!

    • Crowns and sashes are provided, but must be returned at the end of the day.
The crown and sashes are available for purchase for an additional $80.

  • The day starts out with the magical moment - each Lilac will receive her crown and sash during the Lilac Crowning ceremony! Miss Wausau Area & Miss Wausau Area’s Teen will personally crown each Little Lilac and take photos with them.

  • After being crowned, the Little Lilacs participate in a luncheon with the Miss Wausau Area contestants to connect with positive role models in their communities. Throughout this, Little Lilacs will learn about community service initiatives, service projects, and the best tips and tricks for being on stage as the contestants help them get ready to introduce themselves onstage!

  • The Little Lilacs will participate in a service project that benefits the Wisconsin community. Each year, the service project changes. In 2025, the Little Lilacs helped make and assemble care packages to donate to active military and veterans to learn the importance of saying “Thank You!”

  • During the competition, the Little Lilacs will perform a dance on stage as as a group with Miss Wausau Area and Miss Wausau Area’s Teen. They’ll have the opportunity to wear their favorite gown and the crowns and sashes on stage!
Dance choreography will be sent out ahead of time to all Little Lilacs. Rehearsals will then take place during the afternoon prior to the Scholarship Competition starting.

  • In addition to performing the group dance during the Miss Wausau Area Scholarship Competition, each Little Lilac will have the opportunity to practice her public speaking with a brief on stage interview with the titleholders!
